Kapsalon (Hairdresser)Already a Rotterdam phenomenon: the calory bomb Kapsalon.
No haircutting is involved.
It’s the name for a dish that’s made of shoarma, chips, cheese, salad and sauce. Eat one and you don’t have to (or want to?) eat the rest of the day.

It was one of the phenomena in Rotterdam in 2006. 2007 will be the year when we discover if it’s going to be a (inter)national success, or if it will just be a short fashion. The health institutes would definitely prefer the latter.
The story goes that Kapsalon was invented in the Shoarma-restaurant El-Aviva in Rotterdam Delfshaven. They have been selling the dish since 3 or 4 years.
The name Kapsalon is supposed to come from the hairdresser that is located ten meters from the shoarma place: Kapsalon Tati. They used to order shoarma with chips. Later they wanted to add cheese and sauces. When they sent people over to the shoarma-restaurants they said: ask for a Kapsalon, and the shoarma sellers will know what is meant.
By now you can find Kapsalons in shoarma-restaurants all over Rotterdam. It’s something people had to get used to. Rotterdam already new the also interesting combination of international phone-shops and hairdressers; so quite a few people presumed a new (strange) industry had emerged where baking shoarma and getting a haircut was actually taking place in the same room. But now we know the truth.

If you don’t have time to come to Rotterdam and get a live Kapsalon, you can try and cook one yourself. Here’s the receipy.
